Katey McGuckin-Woolam - Operations Partner

Katey fell in love with the media industry on her way to becoming an actress.  It started as a Cinderella story. Big rock station looks for a new morning show news junkie. Out of over 200 candidates, Katey landed on the number one morning show in Kansas City, KY102 with Dick and Jay in the late 70s. That started her love affair with radio.    After learning from the best, she was given her own show which generated number one ratings at night and a write up in Billboard Magazine. She later rejoined Dick Wilson for 20 years of morning duty on 94.9 FM, helping the wake- up show stay in the top five 25-54.

The transition to television was natural. KSHB TV needed a fill-in host for their mid-morning show and Ms. McGuckin jumped at the chance; she spent four years doing double duty, both radio and television.

Katey also spent most of her radio career as Public Service Director for Bonneville, Gannett, Entercom, and Susquehanna in Kansas City. She garnered six finalist awards for the prestigious NAB Crystal award for Public Service. In 1997, she won the Crystal award for KMBZ.  Helping the community was in her blood. Katey was instrumental in bringing together business, media and non-profit agencies, developing a “yellow pages” directory that serviced all non-profit agencies in the Kansas City area. This guide was so effective; when Attorney General Janet Reno visited Kansas City, she took a copy back to Washington as a model for other communities.

Katey has received many accolades from the radio community. She won the Greater Kansas City Media award for News and Public Service. Other awards include the Women in Media award for News and Public Service and the March of Dimes Award for community service. She served on many non-profit boards during her tenure with KCMO FM. Her biggest success was the development of the non-profit agency, Bikes and Trikes for Tykes. For 15 years this group collected thousands of bicycles for underprivileged children and non-profit agencies, many of which have been sent to poverty areas in South America.

Katey also works at her other business as a voice talent. She is a member of the Commercial Success talent block.  She has been heard as the image voice for various Radio and Television stations across the country for formats from news talk, hot AC, Lite Rock and others. You may have heard her work for NBC, ABC, and Fox affiliates.

Katey holds a BFA in theatre from Missouri State University and proudly traveled Europe, entertaining troops in a USO Tour. She has been married to the love of her life for more than 30 years and has two boys.
